Wilmington Hurricane hoops star, Quinten Rollins, has made his college decision official.

On Wednesday, November 11, 2009, Rollins signed his national letter of intent to join head coach Charlie Coles and the Miami University Redhawks. 

“Quinten Rollins is probably the best combo football/basketball player we’ve ever signed,” said Coles. “This young man had over 350 yards of total offense against Cincinnati Turpin in a playoff game a few weeks ago. Quinten is equally as good on the basketball floor, and probably better. If he had decided to play football, he would probably have been a high recruit, but he loves basketball and tells me he loves Miami University, and I’m so glad because I think this guy can come in, along with Josh Sewell, and play right away and not give up anything.”

Rollins averaged 17 points per game last season while helping lead Wilmington to the FAVC Cardinal Division Title.  Along the way, he picked up third-team all-state honors, as well as, being named first-team All-Southwest District.

This week, our BIG play comes to us courtesy the Simon Kenton Pioneers.  The Pioneers were looking to take control in their opening round playoff game when RB Miles Simpson broke loose for a 60-yard TD run.

Halloween was a very special night for East freshman Alaina Norman.  Her 11th place finish at the OHSAA Regional Cross Country Meet advances her to next weeks State Meet in Columbus at Scioto Downs. Her time for the 3.1-mile course was an impressive 19 minutes and 32 seconds in cold and windy conditions.

“This is an amazing feat for a freshman,” said head coach Adam Thomas.  “We all wish Alaina the best of luck this Saturday in Columbus.”

The entire girls’ cross country team also had quite at day Troy.  Their amazing 5th place finish narrowly missed them qualifying as a team for State (top 4 teams and top 16 individuals qualify). The Lady Hawks defeated many teams ranked ahead of them from Cincinnati and Dayton.  Junior Colin Apperson placed 19th overall individually and just missed qualifying for the state meet by 3 places.  Congratulations to Kelly Burrows, Brittney Graham, Hailey Monnig, Victoria Reick-Mitrisin, Rebecka Sepela, and Grace Vandegriff who were all a big part of East’s success at Saturday’s race.

And this week’s winner was….. Anderson at Harrison!

This week, the Redskin and Wildcat faithful got their teams off to an early lead at the poll and never looked back, capturing 58% of the votes.

As for the game, Anderson went on the road and capped off a perfect season by defeating Harrison, 53-37.

It’s official!  St. Xavier’s Matt James has formally committed to play in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

U.S. Army All-American Bowl Midwest Selection Tour made the announcement on Tuesday, October 27th, in front of the entire St. Xavier student body. 

Scout.com ranks the 6-7, 290 pound James as the 11th best offensive tackle in the country in the 2010 class.

Ninety of the nation's top high school football players are chosen to play in the annual East vs. West game every year.  This year’s game will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on January 9, 2010.  It will air live on News 5.
