report notes | more reports

Former Roger Bacon Spartan, Lance Durham, will get a shot at the big leagues.  The Toronto Blue Jays picked Durham in the 14th round of the 2009 MLB Draft.

Durham currently plays for the University of Cincinnati, where he is listed as a first baseman.  This past season, he broke the school records for single-season batting average (.427) and hits (99).  For his efforts, Durham was named second-team all-BIG EAST, as well as, a 2009 Pro-Line Athletic/NCBWA Third-Team All-American.

While playing at Roger Bacon, Durham earned first-team all-GCL honors in both his junior and senior seasons.

Durham is the son of former big leaguer Leon Durham, who spent time with Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, and St. Louis Cardinals over 12 seasons.

As with any player taken in the first-year player draft, Durham will have the option of turning down the Blue Jays and returning to U.C. for his senior season.
